The Opportunity

The company is seeking an Intermediate/Sr. Database Administrator to join the development team. You will be primarily responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining a large-scale highly transactional database in MySQL.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with developers to design and implement new database for large-scale social networking application
  • Establish/maintain procedures for maintenance and backups
  • Migrate existing MySQL database structure to new design that will revolutionize the web
  • Assist and mentor engineers regarding their erroneous ways of querying the database
  • Work closely with operations and QA to build and refresh test database
  • Kick ass and take names

Requirements:

  • Must have at least 4-6+ years of experience of administration of large scale enterprise databases
  • Must have database & applications design and development experience in high-volume transactional applications
  • Expert level with MySQL on Linux (Red Hat a plus)
  • Expert with creating logical and physical data models
  • Proven ability to create, optimize and debug reliable scalable SQL
  • Experience with performance tuning, sharding, backups and other database maintenance tasks
  • Thorough understanding of Social Networking and Web 2.0 technologies
  • Ability to work in a small team and build consensus with colleagues
