The Opportunity
This is a chance to think big
No, to think huge. Then execute even bigger.
You’ll quarterback an entirely new Internet beast; a web property that incorporates information filtering, recommender systems, and social networking.
Your early roadmap is going to look more like a road atlas.
The end goal: bring millions of users together based on their interests, and their interest in each other.
Acting as a ‘mini-CEO’, you’ll work closely with a newly hired Chief Architect to conceptualize, prototype and shepherd development.
It will begin as very high-level stuff, but soon you’ll be turning back-of-the-napkin ideas into modeled ontologies and discussions with a very smart group of software engineers.
They generate great code; you enforce product strategy that steers features and functionality toward the customer.
Writing the roadmap from scratch, you’ll define requirements and co-ordinate user interface, infrastructure, and dev teams.
What separates this job from other poverty-stricken, noodle-eating startup gigs is that the employer isn’t a startup. They already have an audience that’s several million strong and are cash positive.
This is a career-defining opportunity: one that will put your ideas, technical expertise, and product-building foresight to the test.
It’s a Carnegie-Hall-meets-Madison-Square-Garden kind of stage, and millions of users are in the audience, waiting for you.
You excel at product strategy, planning, and execution.
You’re basically the Yoda of product management.
Who Should Apply
You’ve already built a successful social networking site from the ground up—with bells and whistles that aren’t simply for show and user paths that are well-trodden.
You can have a halfway-intelligent conversation about some or all of the following:
- machine learning
- artificial intelligence
- algorithms
- data mining
- who Moot is and why he likes marblecake
You ‘get’ UI and contemporary web design, and you know what it takes in terms of features and functionality to promote usage. You’ve built sites that have room for feature growth (not feature creep), and can accommodate shifts in both user preferences and future technologies.
But you’re not a solo artist. You know how to lead teams, sway stakeholders, and champion an idea without being a dictator.
You’ve got huge ideas that incorporate the memes of the day—and see past them.
You excel at product strategy, planning, and execution, you’re basically the Yoda and Oprah of product management.
