Job Description
Bering Media (www.beringmedia.com) is a Toronto-based startup in the advertising technology space. We use our patent-pending platform to provide extremely accurate location-based advertising without disclosing any private information about the targeted consumers. The platform is a distributed system that processes millions of distinct geographic locations across North America, integrates with real-time bidding advertising exchanges, and handles several billion advertisement bid requests every day.
Our office is located in the Liberty Village neighbourhood of downtown Toronto. The office is surrounded by lots of eating and coffee options, we’re two minutes from a GO station, there’s a streetcar stop one block over, and there’s even a cupcake store around the corner.
Position Summary
We are looking for a talented and energetic software developer to join our growing team. Every member of the development team participates in the full spectrum of engineering work: from analysis and design, to development and testing large-scale systems, to preparing products for production and supporting live systems.
Our software systems use a variety of technologies, including languages like PHP and C/C++, data stores such as MySQL, Riak, and Tokyo Cabinet, and distributed system infrastructure like RabbitMQ and Zookeeper. While we don’t expect candidates to have expertise in all of these technologies, we do expect that the successful candidate will be fearless in their approach to learning about these technologies and building scalable systems using them.
Core Responsibilities
• Designing and developing high-performance and scalable distributed systems
• Investigating and fixing bugs
• Analyzing system performance and determining how to resolve bottlenecks
• Helping to make our agile SCRUM development process more effective
Requirements
• Previous experience with PHP, Java, C/C++, C# or similar languages
• A passion for elegant and efficient software
• Experience working in Linux environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A ferocious appetite for learning
