Hecham Ghazal is not your average hacker – not in Toronto, anyway. He’s one of the few Canadians with deep expertise in tech’s growth areas: building for Internet Scale and Search… Advertising and Social Graph Targeting… and Online Video. You could say that Hecham is the hacker’s hacker. And he’s looking for a few great minds to join him.

As an early Geosign engineer, Hecham learned to deal with 130,000+ domains and 100s of millions of page-views per day. He built the data warehouses, designed the Local Search solutions and led the scaling of the search engines to support multiple verticals on commodity hardware. Then, as Employee #1 at Peerset, he scaled a real-time system to recommend ads based on social profiles. We’re talking more than 90 million page-views/month. The system was powered by a custom-crawled data-set of over 60 million social profiles.

In 2009, Hecham launched LeanIn, the exciting Canadian company that’s changing how we watch online video. LeanIn’s elevator pitch is simple: To make video more fun and more social by answering two key questions:

  • Where is that scene in the video?
  • What are my friends watching?

LeanIn will handle over 500 million interactions/month. For that job, they’re exploiting the best and latest technologies from NoSQL & memcached to Flex & HTML5. But, the team still faces some big technical challenges. And for that, they need a few good hackers.
